What Is Fraxel Laser Treatment?
The Fraxel laser is a state-of-the-art hair removal treatment that uses microscopic columns of light to only destroy targeted areas of skin. Unlike traditional laser treatments, this leaves healthy surrounding cells unharmed whilst providing astonishing, natural looking results. The untouched healthy cells are integral in the recovery process and aid rapid healing and reducing discomfort. By stimulating collagen production, the Fraxel laser effectively tightens the skin and normalizes pigmentation. Without targeting the entire outer layer of skin, as ablative laser resurfacing does, Fraxel avoids weeks of pain, redness, raw skin and downtime.
How Is Fraxel Different From Other Treatments?
Fraxel targets microscopic areas, destroying all of the cells in the targeted area whilst leaving the surrounding healthy cells behind. Ablative laser treatment is very effective but the recovery period is often lengthy and some experience significant side effects. In addition, whilst Intense Pulsed Light or Photofacial treatments are also non-ablative and have no healing time, they require numerous sessions over many months. Fraxel is the most effective non-ablative treatment around, without the downtime or side effects of alternative therapies.
How Does Fraxel Work?
Fraxel targets portions of specific damaged tissue, leaving the untargeted areas unharmed. By creating microscopic ‘wounds’ within the targeted areas, the body’s natural healing process is triggered. Thus, accelerating the production of collagen and new healthy skin cells. Fraxel leaves your skin looking healthier and younger.
Can Fraxel Treat Acne Scars?
Dr. Rivkin considers the new Fraxel SR1500 the most effective treatment of acne scars currently available. The new treatment provides a stronger, more effective treatment than the older one, with less pain and downtime. The Fraxel system works in the same way on acne scars as it does with sun damaged skin, pinpoint injuries and replacing the depressed and discolored tissue with normal skin.
What Are The Benefits Of Fraxel Laser Treatments?
One of the many benefits of Fraxel Laser Treatments is the minimal downtime. Due to the gentle non-ablative nature of the treatment, healing time is significantly faster than alternative therapies. Furthermore, any swelling and redness is extremely minimal and there are no side effects that are risks of traditional laser treatments. With such a short healing period, some can even return to routine activities the same day as their treatment. This is largely dependent on your skin condition and treatment.
What Are The Risks Involved?
Swelling and redness are the most common side effects found from the Fraxel treatment, subsiding within a day or two. Most patients describe the treatment as a painless, ‘prickling’ sensation. There is a very limited risk of infection or scarring, although it is practically unheard of.
How Many Treatments Will I Need?
The number of treatments required varies depending on the severity of the condition. On average, an effective treatment regime consists of 3 to 5 sessions, spaced about 2 to 4 weeks apart from one another. The sessions may be spaced further apart, based on Dr. Rivkin’s assessment. Results will be viable after every treatment, although it does take time to see the full benefits (2 to 3 months).
What Precautions After The Treatment?
Dr. Rivkin will provide you with a post treatment kit of medical grade cosmeceuticals to speed healing; however there are other precautions you can take to aid the process. In the first 24 hours after your treatment your skin may appear pink or red and feel as it is sunburned. Like normal sunburn, your skin may flake and exfoliate and using a moisturizer will help reduce this. Wearing sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher twice a day is especially important. Avoiding direct sun exposure during the healing process and for at last 3 months after the treatment will allow the Fraxel to work its wonders to the highest capacity.
