So What’s the Best Hair Removal System?
Currently, we use the Soprano Diode Laser system. At this time, the Soprano Diode Laser is the most effective face and body hair removal system on the market. The Soprano is unique in that it is the only laser hair removal system available that is practically painless. Gone are the days of tedious, painful, protracted and very temporary methods of hair removal.
What Are Older Methods Of Hair Removal?
Shaving: A simple but messy and time consuming procedure. Requiring a constant commitment, it is a temporary solution to hair removal and it leaves unsightly stubble.
Tweezing: A painful and temporary procedure. Impractical for large areas.
Depilatories: Another temporary solution, it is also a messy procedure that must be repeated weekly. Risks of this method include frequent skin irritation and burning.
Waxing: A painful and temporary procedure that can cause allergic reactions and inflammation of the hair follicle.
Electrolysis: While it can successfully eliminate hair, it is often a tedious and time-consuming process that is best reserved for small, isolated areas.
How Does The Soprano Work?
The Soprano uses state-of-the-art laser technology to heat hair cells gradually as the laser head moves across the skin, in contrast to the traditional (and more painful) pulse method used by older lasers. As the laser head moves steadily back and forth across the skin, intense laser light energy is sent through the top layers of the skin, targeting and heating dark tissue. Since hair follicles are significantly darker than the tissue around them, the Soprano Diode Laser only targets the hair cells, sparing the surrounding skin cells. The majority of people require 4-7 treatments to achieve permanent hair reduction. This painless system is effective for all skin types.
What Can I Expect During The Treatment?
Treatments using the Soprano Diode can take as little as a few minutes, but will vary depending on the treatment area and the patient. For example, the upper lip or bikini line area may take just 5-15 minutes, however a longer period may be required for your legs or back.
It is requested that you shave the area the morning of the treatment, however it can be done for you if arranged beforehand. Controlled by our certified laser nurse specialists the device is placed over the targeted area and moved back and forth along the skin. The heat emitted from the Soprano Diode disables the melanin in the hair follicle. This is an effective and painless process, although a sensation most comparable with a hot stone massage is expected as the heat is applied and the follicles shrink.
What Happens Before And After The Treatment?
The less hair on the skin during treatment, the more comfortable it is. This is why we request that you shave the area to be treated on the morning of the procedure. We advise that you avoid sun exposure as well as bleaching, plucking or waxing the area to be treated for 3 weeks prior to the procedure.
Following your treatment, you should continue to avoid waxing, plucking or electrolysis. These procedures remove pigmented hairs from the hair roots, reducing the effectiveness of your next laser treatment. Shaving is the best temporary way to remove unwanted hair between laser treatments. It is ok to resume shaving or clipping hair in the treated area after 3-4 days.
Am I A Good Candidate For Laser Hair Removal?
The Soprano Diode Laser works best on patients with light skin and dark hair, due to the greater contrast between the skin and hair. Patients who have darker skin types have less contrast, and thus less energy is used in the treatment to avoid damaging their skin. As a result, those with darker skin require more treatment sessions and we strongly recommend that they avoid tanning before and after treatments. Most darker hair types can be treated effectively, but patients with white or blonde hair are not good candidates. Those with a significant history of cold sores should let us know. In order to avoid an outbreak, we can pretreat with anti viral medication.
Thus far there have been no reasons to think that laser hair removal has any effect on a pregnancy. Nevertheless, we consider any risk in this circumstance to be not worth taking, so we do not treat patients who are currently pregnant
Why Does It Look Like Hair Is Growing 1-3 Weeks After Laser Treatment?
This is perfectly normal. The Soprano Diode Laser destroys hair roots, but does not remove hair shafts instantly. These shafts normally fall out within the first week after your treatment, although some may take longer. Treated hairs which do not fall out within 2-3 weeks, are treated in the next session. It is advised that you don’t shave the treated area or wash it with anything but mild soap and your bare hands for 3-4 days after laser treatment. The hairs will come out on their own.
