Offering PRP and Microneedling in Los Angeles

Our faces and our hair are the first thing others see when they meet us. Much of the aesthetic judgements that people make is based on their evaluation of a person’s face and hair. These parts of the body are also the most exposed to the elements and are the first to suffer damage. The sun, the wind and air pollutants all wreak havoc on unprotected skin and hair. These vulnerable areas are the first to show the signs of “wear and tear” which is seen and labeled as “aging”. We now have a simple natural procedure to help correct these changes and roll back the clock on your face, lessening the process of aging or hair loss.

PRP, “Platelet Rich Plasma”, is a minimally invasive procedure performed completely in our office with minimal down time or discomfort. A small amount of the patient’s blood is extracted and processed on site to produce a solution which contains a high concentration of platelets and growth factors. This solution is then both injected into the skin and applied topically. The PRP has been shown to cause the release of additional growth factors which stimulate the treated area to produce collagen and other components of skin. It also stimulates the regeneration and synthesis of blood vessels, fat, muscle cells and bone. This results in the injected areas appearing revitalized, fresh and glowing. Since PRP is made from your own blood, there are minimal side effects. Swelling and discomfort are mild and there is no risk of allergies.

    Microneedling in Detail

Topical application of the PRP solution is preceded by a process called Microneedling, where a specialized device uses a series of small quickly moving needles to create thousands of “micro channels” or holes in the upper layers of the skin. By itself, this procedure will stimulate collagen formation resulting in a thickening of the upper layers of the skin, smoothing fine lines and wrinkles, shrinking of the pores and stimulating hair follicles to produce new hair growth. When used in combination with PRP, Microneedling is even more effective. Topical application of the PRP solution after Microneedling permits the growth factors to access the deeper layers of the skin, enhancing the effects of collagen growth and cell turnover. A “PRP facial” with Microneedling provides your skin with a wonderful youthful glow with minimal downtime, as the PRP actually speeds the healing process.

    The PRP Injecction

Often we will combine PRP injection with PRP Microneedling. For example, we use both procedures together for the rejuvenation of the under eye areas. Fine lines and wrinkles under the eyes makes one look old and tired. After a course of PRP with micro needling, the under eye areas become tighter, fuller and revitalized.

For optimal results, we recommend 2 to 5 treatment sessions, spaced apart by 6 to 8 weeks.

What to Expect After a PRP and Microneedling Procedure

Most patients experience some mild swelling for a day and redness for 3 to 5 days after the procedure. The redness can usually be covered by make-up and most patients can return to work with 1 to 3 days after the procedure. Bruising can happen, especially if PRP injections are used during the procedure. Most of the time bruising is mild and can be covered up with make-up. Duration of bruising varies with the individual, but is rarely more than a week. Although patients may experience some mild discomfort during the procedure, there is no pain after the PRP treatment.

    PRP Hair Growth Stimulation

Another effective use of PRP is for hair growth. The loss of hair is due to multiple different factors. The most common cause of hair loss or “alopecia” may be effectively treated with PRP and micro needling. The hair follicle from which hair arises depends on the surrounding blood vessels to provide nutrients and growth factors. As one ages these blood vessels become less effective in supplying the hair follicle which then shrinks and stops producing hair. Studies have shown that improving the blood supply to follicles improves the health and functioning of the follicle. The growth factors produced by PRP stimulate new blood vessel growth which promotes hair growth, as well as increasing follicle and hair size. After two to three treatments, patients report a thicker, fuller head of hair.
