An Affordable, Non-Surgical Nose Job

June 23, 2014
There’s arguably no feature on the face more prominent than the nose. With its prime real estate front and center on the face, deviations and imperfections often feel magnified, leaving men and women eager to conceal perceived flaws. Apart from aesthetic concerns, nasal irregularities like a deviated septum or collapsed, narrow cartilage can also contribute to functional breathing problems.

Known in the medical world as rhinoplasty, the average surgical nose job costs upwards of $5,000 (per the American Society of Plastic Surgeons). The only thing more painful than the price tag is the recovery time. Fortunately, thanks to Dr. Alexander Rivkin, there’s a less invasive and more affordable solution.

Dr. Rivkin is a pioneer in the world of minimally invasive cosmetic procedures and has devised an innovative alternative to traditional rhinoplasty: a non-invasive, non-surgical nose job.

What Does a Non-Surgical Nose Job Entail?

During the 15- to 30-minute procedure, a topical numbing cream is applied to the treatment area before a filler like Radiesse, Voluma or Artefill is injected into irregular areas of the nose. These safe, non-invasive fillers can be used to fill in dents, balance a bump, correct a drooping tip, or simply to smooth out the overall shape of the nose.

What is Voluma?

Voluma is a hyaluronic acid filler that was approved in October of 2013. It is the longest lasting FDA approved temporary filler – studies show that the cosmetic effect of Voluma lasts for up to two years. Some study centers are even saying that the filler lasts longer than that! The other major benefit of Voluma is that it is reversible at any time after injection. An enzyme called hyaluronidase can be injected to dissolve Voluma, either partially or completely, and it takes less than 24 hours to work. Results of Non Surgical Rhinoplasty with Voluma are natural-looking and smooth. The filler can be injected into any area of the nose with great results.

What Is Radiesse?

Radiesse is an FDA-approved volumizing filler that is commonly used by plastic surgeons to stimulate the production of collagen. It is comprised of calcium and cellulose and does not require any allergy testing. Radiesse’s organic composition will sit evenly and symmetrically in the body until it is broken down naturally. The effects wane gradually, not all at once, and you can expect results to last about a year. The cost of Non Surgical Rhinoplasty with Radiesse is by far more affordable than a surgical rhinoplasty.

Is There a Permanent Non-Surgical Alternative?

Yes. Approved by the FDA in 2007, Artefill is the first permanent injectable filler in the United States. A safer alternative to silicone since it consists of non-reactive methyl methacrylate and purified bovine collagen, Artefill is gradually injected over the course of three to five sessions. Each session is spaced about a month apart because it takes time for the bovine collagen to be replaced with the body’s own collagen and connective tissue. After all of the sessions, our goal is to provide patients with a natural-looking yet permanent result. At approximately $750 per session, Artefill offers a cost-effective and less painful alternative to surgery.

Is There Any Downtime?

Generally not. It is possible to get a small bruise or mild swelling for a few days, but that is a relatively rare event. Following the 15- to 30-minute procedure, patients can typically return to work immediately.
