Lip Laser Hair Removal and Nosebleeds

December 9, 2008
Dr. Rivkin,

I also have a LHR question for you regarding lasers.
One of the areas I am getting done is my upper lip.
The laser really close to my nose (basically it almost touches it) because my tongue is underneath my lip sticking out that area to make it easier on the tech.

As I was leaving my treatments my nose started bleeding really bad. Is that just a total by chance thing or could the laser being up so close to my nose have caused that to occur? I read that nosebleeds are caused from excessive heat exposure, dry air..etc.
could the laser actually being so close up to yours nose (touching it) cause it to bleed? Or was that just a fly by night chance timing thing?

thank you!

hi,
that's interesting - i have not heard of LHR upper lip causing nosebleeds, but its certainly possible that it had something to do with the bleed. most likely, you are susceptible to nosebleeds and the heat and manipulation of your nose with the laser head caused a scab to come off and bleeding to occur.
i would keep the septum of your nose (that's the area from which nosebleeds happen, for the most part) moisturized with vaseline during seasons of low humidity.
i do not think, though, that it is anything more serious than that.
hope that helps
