What is a V-Beam Laser?
Clear, glowing facial skin is a sign of health and youth. Over time, however, skin that was once clear can develop red discoloration and visible capillaries. Genetic propensity can combine with sun damage, smoking damage, acne scarring, pregnancy and many other factors to give your skin a prematurely aged appearance.
While hundreds of creams and facial products line the shelves, promising to reverse the effects of aging and renew your skin, few offer substantial or lasting benefits. That’s why the search for clear, beautiful skin leads many people with redness and broken capillaries to the V-beam 595 laser.
Am I a Good Candidate for the V-Beam Laser in Los Angeles?
The V-beam 595 pulsed dye laser is the gold standard for the treatment of vascular lesions, including any of the following common skin conditions:
- Broken capillaries
- Red acne scars
- Surgical or burn scars
- Port wine stain birth marks
How the V-Beam Laser Works
The V-beam works by delivering an intense but gentle burst of laser energy onto a selected area of the skin. The energy is then absorbed by the blood vessels or red pigmented cells being targeted, and heats these tissues. The heat destroys the targeted tissue, but, because the surrounding tissue is not red and did not absorb the laser energy, it remains unharmed. The V beam laser is safe and effective because it can be so selective, destroying only the capillaries and red pigmented tissue and sparing the surrounding tissue. No anesthetic is required for the procedure. The epidermis is protected by DCD, an exclusive method that delivers a blast of cooling mist to the treatment area a fraction of a second prior to each light energy pulse.
Patients experience no significant down time after undergoing V-beam treatment. Most see some increase in redness immediately after the treatment, but they can resume their daily activities. The redness lasts for no more than a couple of days. The lack of downtime makes the V beam procedure convenient for moms, professionals, and other people with busy schedules who don’t have the recovery downtime required for other skin laser treatments.
V-beam is safe for virtually all skin types and on patients of all ages. From dark brown shades to olive to ivory white, and from adolescents to the elderly, V-beam treatments have proven to generate benefits for people with a variety of skin problems. Dr. Rivkin and his team will tailor the procedure to your needs, depending on your age, skin color and type, as well as the condition and location being treated.
How fast one sees results varies between patients, but improvement may be visible as early as several days after your first treatment. For those with deeper or more severe vascular lesions, two to five treatment sessions may be required before you see significant results.
Pros & Cons of V-Beam Laser Treatments
Our V-Beam Laser in Los Angeles offers are safe, effective and virtually painless. We see great results when treating redness, rosacea and broken capillaries. It is important that the patient avoid sun exposure at least two weeks before and after treatment. We suggest using a broad spectrum sunscreen of at least SPF 30. This laser may not be safe for extremely dark skin tones. Most patients report a mild snapping sensation during the procedure. After treatment, the skin may appear slightly red and swollen for a few hours. We recommend that you avoid blood thinner and heavy exercise for at least 24 hours.
In addition to the indications listed above, we have seen great results using the V-Beam to treat mild to moderate bruising after cosmetic procedures. This is an off label use for the laser, but our patients truly appreciate the benefits and recent studies now support this claim. Bruising is a common side effect from injectable fillers and other cosmetic procedures. With the V-Beam laser, we are able to significantly reduce the size and duration of the bruise, allowing our patients to return to their normal lifestyles quickly and with a minimum of downtime. The laser achieves this by targeting the injured vessels and breaking up the excess blood that has spilled into the surrounding tissues, making it easier for the body to heal the area. After one or two treatments, the patient experiences significant reduction of the bruise. Anytime you penetrate the skin, there is the potential of bruising and with the V-Beam laser, our patients can rest assured knowing that we can address this common problem quickly and effectively.
During your complimentary consultation at our office, Dr. Rivkin or his nurses will discuss the length and frequency of each treatment according to your specific needs. You will have the opportunity to ask questions, so that you know exactly what to expect during and after the procedure. Patients are also provided with complete post-procedural care instructions to help maintain the results of your V-beam treatment.
